Gratitude Journal

writing in a gratitude journalA Gratitude Journal is a wonderful tool to use to combat negative thinking.

I have been keeping gratitude journals for over 4 years now. Today I want to show you how this works for me. This is yet another tool you can use to help combat negativity and anxious thoughts.

You are what you think. When your world is filled with doom and gloom, you will probably find that your thoughts and internal dialog tends to be likewise…

I have heard that a human mind thinks over 60,000 thoughts a day! I don’t know if this is true, but I know that my thoughts tend to flow like a river. They flow at a steady clip. when I actively choose to focus on positive thoughts, I experience a more peaceful mood.

A few days ago I was really feeling crappy and I knew I had to change my thoughts. But I felt crappy, so it wasn’t easy. I headed straight to my gratitude journal and did this little trick and it worked great: I went through the alphabet and made a gratitude list from A to Z. When I ran out of everything that started with A for which I could be grateful, I went on to B, and so on. I deliberately expounded on everything I could think of.

For example: “A–my positive Attitude. I am so grateful for my positive attitude. I can choose a positive attitude and know that I will experience serenity and peace. When I have a positive attitude, I attract positives from the universe. This includes inner peace, and happy encounters at work and at home. When I have a positive attitude I stand up straight and walk tall.

I am proud of myself and happy to be alive in this beautiful world. Even when things around me are not to my liking I can exhibit a positive attitude and make the outcome the best possible. Anxiety can not touch me when I have a positive attitude.”

Other things from my gratitude list that start with A: Abundance, Apple pie, Aunt Chrissy, Art, Aruba, America, Animals, Angel hair pasta, Avocados, and Air conditioning.

I list everything that comes to mind, from the real important to the ridiculous. Then I move on to B.

By the time I got to Z, naturally I am feeling fantastic and even laughing. It took only a few minutes to scribble this out, but boy what a difference it made.

The A-Z Gratitude List works, and I encourage you to try it!

Using a gratitude journal is important because you can look back when times are tough and remember in a pinch all the wonderful things in your life.

I wish you peace,

Jill G.

      Hi Maz,

It’s important to get your negatives out, but once you have, really really try to turn towards the positive by focusing on gratitude. It is a practice, but it feels good. What you focus on you become. xx
